From Spreadsheets to Solutions

I spent years making complex systems work—on submarines, in Pentagon budget offices, and eventually, at my own kitchen table.

Alden Alderman, Founder of FG4B

That's where FG4B was born: watching my wife, a bookkeeper at a local general contracting firm, drown in manual data entry every night.

There had to be a better way. Turns out, there was.

The Unconventional Path to Small Business Automation

Most tech consultants learned to code in college and moved to Silicon Valley. My path looked different.

I started at Vanderbilt on an NROTC scholarship, then volunteered for submarine service. For years, I ran nuclear reactors and managed engineering projects in shipyards—upgrading reactor protection systems where precision and reliability weren't suggestions, they were survival requirements.

After the Navy, I earned a master's in sustainable real estate development and ended up at the Pentagon, helping the Air Force prepare its budget. Different world, same problem: mountains of data, endless spreadsheets, and processes that could be so much better.

I've always been the spreadsheet guy—the one who couldn't resist building a formula to save five minutes, even if it took an hour to create. When AI and machine learning tools became accessible, I saw something bigger than faster spreadsheets. I saw the chance to eliminate the busy work entirely.

So I got a certificate in AI/ML engineering. Not to build the next big app, but to solve real problems for real people.

Where It Started: The Kitchen Table Test

My wife is a bookkeeper at a local general contracting firm in DC. Every evening, I'd watch her manually entering invoices, chasing down job costs, reconciling timesheets—the same tasks, night after night.

While I was in the AI/ML program, I started experimenting: What if we automated vendor invoice processing? What if job cost data flowed automatically from field notes into reports? What if the tedious parts just... disappeared?

It worked. Really worked.

Now I'm building a full-stack website and database for that firm—automating workflows, creating dashboards, streamlining operations from estimating to invoicing. Every day, I see hours of manual work vanish. Every week, I hear "I can't believe we used to do this by hand."

That's when I realized: if it works for them, it works for every small contractor, landscaper, HVAC tech, and home service business struggling with the same chaos.

Why FG4B?

The name FG4B comes from something deeply personal: my stepson has FoxG1 syndrome, a rare genetic condition. It's taught our family the value of adaptation, persistence, and building systems that work for the people who need them, not the other way around.

That philosophy drives everything I do. I don't build technology for technology's sake. I build solutions that meet you where you are—whether you're working from handwritten notes, voice memos, photos of receipts, or decade-old spreadsheets.

The technology exists to turn all of that into automated workflows at the press of a button. My job is to make it happen for businesses that don't have time to figure it out themselves.

What I Bring to Your Business

I understand operations from the inside

Not from a consultant's slideshow, but from watching systems succeed or fail in high-stakes environments. Submarines. Pentagon budgets. Construction offices.

I know your pain points because I've lived them

The invoice that didn't get entered. The job cost report that took three days to compile. The scheduling chaos. The late nights catching up on data entry.

I meet you where you are

You don't need to change your entire operation to benefit from automation. We start with your current process—even if it's messy—and make it work better. Voice notes become job logs. Photos of receipts become expense entries. Handwritten timesheets become payroll data.

I value results over complexity

I don't sell you elaborate systems you'll never use. I build what saves you time, reduces errors, and lets you focus on the work that actually matters.

Let's Build Something That Works

If you're running a home service business and you're tired of drowning in paperwork, let's talk.

I'm not here to sell you a one-size-fits-all platform. I'm here to understand your specific chaos and build a custom solution that fixes it.

Because at the end of the day, you didn't start your business to manage spreadsheets. You started it to build, fix, create, and serve your customers.

Let me handle the busy work. You handle the craft.
